Workshops: Rope’s End publishes C.J. Shane in nonfiction and mystery-suspense fiction. In 2020, we are adding a new author, Aylen Ainsley, who writes romantic suspense. Also Shane offers two-hour workshops for individuals interested in indie publishing. Topics covered in the workshop are: Publishing Industry Overview Pre-Publication Decisions Production Steps and Costs Comparison of Print-on-Demand and Distribution Companies Author Platform Building Book Promotion and Advertising Special topics: Kindle Select, Rapid Write/Rapid Release Trends in Publishing Today Think about the following questions before coming to the workshop: 1) what kind of book do I want to publish (e-book, hard cover, paperback, all three), text only or with images?; 2) do I want to try to sell my book to the public or am I writing primarily for friends and family? 3) do I want to sell only through Amazon or "go wide" and offer my book to other venues such as libraries and bookstores? This introductory workshop in self-publishing will assist participants to consider and set self-publishing goals; discuss the e-book only market; review major POD (print-on-demand) companies; discuss interior text formatting options; consider proofreading/copyediting; discuss cover graphic design and formatting options; consider related topics such as ISBNs, copyright issues, print requirements (CMYK vs. RGB), e-book text conversions and file options; getting reviews for your book (including ARCs); and a beginning look at book marketing. The fee for this workshop is $45. Workshops have been suspended until covid gives up on us because we all got vaccinated! |
Author Services: Rope’s End provides individualized author services on a limited basis. You, the author, will be guided and assisted through the publication process step-by-step with the end goal of publishing a book ready for sale. It is strongly recommended that you take the Workshop (see left) first before beginning the actual publication process. You will come out of this guided process with a book that you published yourself. Rope’s End will not be the publisher. You will be the publisher, and you will hold all rights. Rope’s End charges a fee for this assisted service of $35 per hour. How many hours it will take to produce a book depends on several factors, first among them being whether you decide to stay under the Amazon umbrella or if you are “going wide.” Once the book is published, you as the author and publisher will keep 100% of all profits.
